It’s Love (Original Poem by Madison O. Williams)

They say if you wait long enough,

Love will come find you.

But what if you’ve been waiting all of your life for that special person

Because everybody you knew and loved left you behind to rust like a bicycle in the shed.

Or a bouncy spring that lost its bounce in a bed.

Do you ever think to fix it?

Or do you not have the proper tools to do so?

It doesn’t take nails or a hammer to fix a broken heart

Or a saw and an ax to chop down dead branches that once carried leaves that held all of your broken dreams but fell because seasons changed and everything around you began to turn cold

And by the time you had a chance to be with somebody,

They decided that their feelings for you were old

And they left you like the rest of the people in your life to some other person who might look better or prettier than you are

As if they really cared about you or your self-esteem to actually like you in the first place.

What if you liked somebody and you were so sure of it that it made you sick thinking about it every day?

That you knew that the person and you would be the perfect match and nothing could possibly get in the way?

But somehow you figured out a way to ruin what you had thought and hurt your heart the same way everybody else has done to yours.

But for some reason you thought it was okay to spend your life in a cage of hopelessness and misery

That you didn’t need to see what you needed to

And everyone who left were still not in front of you

It’s not okay.

Love is like a variety of chocolates.

You don’t know what flavor you’re going to taste.

There’s no point of trying something you’re going to waste.

But it’s a disgrace not to try something new and to face the only problem that means a lot to you.

Some people don’t know what’s coming for them.

Love is like a gamble.

They take the risk and lose it all but don’t wine because they figure that they fail all the time…

So what’s the point of crying?

By the time you roll the dice

You learned that you sacrificed your heart and your life but didn’t care because the feeling was nice.

You dealt the cards and laid down a hand and found yourself quickly sinking in the sand.

But love is nothing but a quote on an armband.

Love isn’t kind.

What’s worse is that the people who have the most problems are the ones who get ran over all the time.

The ones who get treated like dead possums on the ground.

The ones who get tossed in the trash because they were never good enough when they are found.

It isn’t fun being road kill.

It isn’t fun being a billboard on the side of the road

Where people see you,

But ignore you because all they see is either a useless animal or a commercial for a show.

It’s easy to not know who you are because life is a game and you can’t travel very far

Leveling up is the hardest part because each level is more of a challenge

And it’s likely that you give up if you can’t pass the hardest one.

It’s no fun.

You become weak because you have a losing streak trying to win and you haven’t found the energy to get back up again.

It’s no wonder you stopped playing the game.

Ever since the first time you lost you’ve never been the same

And the last time you ever remember getting back on your feet you fell

But you know that you are to blame for the injuries and bruises that came along with it.

And the pain that you endured is because you are ashamed of yourself and decided to quit.

But don’t give up.

If love came to you, life would be easy..

That’s why you get off your rear

Rewind those gears and start walking down the street like you have nothing to fear

Because you are good enough

You are pretty enough

It doesn’t matter how insecure you are or how confident you can be

Love is tough

And it’s happened to me

So go find love yourself so you can be somebody you can be proud of.

Because life is too short to be sitting around.

You got to search for what you want if you want to be found.

This is how I want the conversation to go…

Me: Uh, hey.. Can I talk to you about “him”?

Friend: Sure… What’s wrong?

Me: Well, you know I like him and everything… And he likes you… A whole lot…

Friend: Yeah… and?

Me: Well, I know you really don’t want to go out with him.. So can you tell it to his face so he can move on?

Friend: I don’t want to hurt his feelings..

Me: Tell him… Tell him how you really feel because if you don’t, I will. He’s confused.. He is such a damn nice guy. He doesn’t deserve to be misled like that. He’s been waiting a long time for you to give him an answer, so stop making him wait!

Ugh… I wish I could really go through with the things I think of…
